Fisherman's Curse

Short film written and directed by me. A short film created by a team of 8 people in 10 weeks.
Log line: A girl falls asleep while tanning and dreams her hands turn into fish.

Character Mechanicals

Trina Trout Character
Trina trout is a silicone puppet, with plastic replacement heads, fabric clothes,plastic and fabric wig, and vacuformed replacement lids, pupils, and eyebrows.


Responsible for head and expression sculpts, clothing fabrication, wig sculpt and fabrication, head detail painting, silicone paint-ins, art direction.
Body sculpt by Lily Langford.


Head
Heads were sculpted by me with chavant clay, then molded in silicone and cast in plastic.

Wig Cap

Wig mold was created with indents for magnet connection to head and bump for ponytail attachment. Head was remolded to fit magnets and wig.

Wig is casted in plastic ,wrapped in fabric. Pony tail is wire covered in thick muslin, twisted into shape and epoxied to cap. Both painted with gouache. 2 wig caps created.

Edges were created with a wire frame wrapped in fabric and stuffed for volume, attached to the inside of wig cap.
Ponytail wires were attached through a hole in the wig, secured with epoxy.
Holes were drilled in wig and head at identical spots, magnets were secured in the spots with glue

Clothing Fabrication:
Trina's Bikini Sets
I created clothing patterns by draping paper onto the clay puppet, then cutting to size.



I dyed my fabrics using watered down gouache to create the perfect color match to the design, then I traced my patterns and cut my fabric.

Todd Tuna Character
Todd Tuna is a silicone puppet, with plastic head, fabric clothes, propoxy and fabric mustache and hat, and vacuformed replacement lids, pupils, and eyebrows.



Responsible for head sculpt, clothing fabrication, hat and mustache fabrication, head painting, art direction.
Body sculpt by Cara Trenkle.

Head painted with matt acrylic
Mustache created in propoxy, wrapped in thin muslin, then painted with acrylic
Hat is created with propoxy and wire base, covered in fabric. Detailing with acrylic paint, propoxy, twine.
Attached with wire drilled into head.
Clothing
Pattern created, clothing made of fabric lined with wire and muslin for movement control.
Detailing with thread and watercolor paint.


Fish Todd's Pants
Pants were created with a tan linen fabric, lined with wire, and a stretchy cotton front to ensure natural movement. Details were added with watercolor paint and sequins.








Motion test to ensure fabric moved realistically against the body.
